First Penguin edition, and first ever “Modern Classics” Kerouac edition. The cover art was from a painting, The Athlete’s Dream, by Larry Rivers, who was an artist friend of Kerouac’s. Rivers appears in the movie Pull My Daisy as the Neal Cassady character.
